How does stealth mode work?
Veil uses the same operating-system protection that banking apps rely on to keep their windows out of screen capture. The overlay never appears in Zoom, Meet, Teams, QuickTime, OBS, or still-image screenshots. The free trial includes stealth for 3 days; after that it requires a paid plan.
My trial expired. What changes?
Screen-capture invisibility, mic, screen capture, skills, knowledge base, and quick actions become disabled. The app still runs as a visible chat window with your own API keys. Upgrade to a paid tier to restore all features.
What's the difference between BYOK and Managed?
BYOK (free + lifetime) uses your own API keys — prompts never pass through our servers. Managed (Pro, Pro+, Team) uses our API keys and proxies LLM + STT through our infrastructure. BYOK keeps your data fully private.
Is Veil legal to use?
Veil is a general-purpose AI assistant for use on your own personal device. You are responsible for complying with all laws and rules that apply to any specific context in which you choose to run it — including, where applicable, your jurisdiction’s wiretap and recording-consent laws, your employer’s acceptable-use policies, and any institution’s rules on third-party tools. Use in any setting where assistive software is prohibited violates our Terms of Service.
Why does the app need Accessibility permission on macOS?
Global hotkeys (like double-Shift) require macOS Accessibility permission to detect keypresses system-wide. You can grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Why does it need Screen Recording permission?
The screen capture feature (Assist chip) takes a screenshot of your current screen. Without this permission, the app can still chat but the “Assist” action won't work.
Can I use Veil offline?
Partially. Local Whisper for STT and Ollama for LLM both work fully offline if you configure them. Cloud providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Deepgram) obviously need internet.
How do I activate my license?
After purchase, you'll receive a license key by email (format:
STLH-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). Open Veil → Settings → License → paste the key → Activate.Can I run Veil on multiple devices?
Yes, up to your tier's device limit: Lifetime 3, Pro 3, Pro+ 5, Team 10. Exceeding the limit requires deactivating an older device from the dashboard.
How do I cancel? Will I get a refund?
Cancel anytime from your dashboard. All sales are final — no refunds for cancellation. When you cancel, you keep full access through the end of your current billing period; the subscription just doesn't renew. Lifetime is non-refundable. Read the full refund policy.
